The Sports Hall of Fame has honored individuals such as Don Shula, Alex Ochoa, Tony Nathan, Jack McCall and many more - who's next? JOIN US for a night of celebration in honor of the Town of Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Class of 2020! The Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame was created to honor athletes, coaches, community members, and teams from the Town of Miami Lakes for their outstanding contribution or achievement in sport. In January 2016, the Town Council approved the selection criteria for membership into the Miami Lakes Sports Hall of Fame which is located at the Miami Lakes Optimist Park Clubhouse. As part of the criteria, the Sports Hall of Fame Committee was established to review nominations consistent with the criteria and to plan the induction ceremony. Previous inductees include the likes of Don Shula, Jim Mandich, Alex Ochoa, Jack McCall, Tony Nathan, Joel Rodriguez, Sara Sidner, William Graham, Jim Hamilton, Chris Corchiani, David Oliver, George Deming and Javier Zapata. This years induction class will actually be a carry forward from last year as we were not able to hold an induction ceremony due to the pandemic. Making this a much more anticipated event with the aim to recognize the following individuals for their excellence in different areas of sport. The class includes legendary University of Miami Football Coach Howard Schnellenberger, Major League Pitcher and Local Business Owner Gus Gandarillas, former University of Central Florida Volleyball Player and Coach turned Teacher for HML Miriam Ochoa, longtime resident and Optimist Club Member that played a pivotal role in the construction of the first clubhouse and establishment of an educational scholarship Roland Gomez and former HML Teacher and Head Football coach Michael Uspensky. The event is scheduled for December 4th, 2021 at 6:00pm. Miami Lakes is known as one of the most beautiful residential areas in South Florida for its tree lined streets, large estate lots, and extremely low crime rates. The Town of Miami Lakes is dedicated to maintaining a positive town identity and sense of community
