Gunshots Erupt In Silver Spring: Local Man Critically Injured

SILVER SPRING, MD — Silver Spring saw two shootings on the same block within 12 hours of each other, authorities are reporting. The shootings left a 35-year-old man in critical condition, and several homes and businesses riddled with bullet holes. The back-to-back weekend shootings come two weeks after businesses on Georgia Avenue were shot with bullets in the middle of the afternoon. On Sunday, a 35-year-old man police say is from Silver Spring was found in critical condition at around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, after reports of multiple gunshots, according to a news release from the Montgomery County Department of Police. Police arrived at the 8300 block of Fenton Street to find the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers initiated lifesaving measures on the victim until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue teams arrived, and transported him to the hospital, according to MCDP. Almost exactly 24 hours before, officials responded to reports of numerous gunshots on the same block. Authorities and residents reported that numerous businesses, residences, and vehicles nearby were struck with multiple rounds of ammunition. No one was injured in the Saturday shooting, authorities said. The shooting remains an active investigation. Authorities are asking nearby owners to review surveillance footage, and anyone with information to contact the 3rd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6870 with information. The increasing violence has Silver Spring residents on edge. A resident who asked to remain anonymous told Fox 5 DC News that he was awakened Saturday after two bullets shattered his window and flew into his home. He said that one bullet hit the wall, and a fragment of another hit the couch. The condo unit above his had a bullet hole in the window, and the Safeway next door had three bullet holes in a parking lot side door. He and his wife now plan to move.
