Here are the top stories today in Burlington: Protesters are demanding an extension of the timeline for closing a homeless encampment in Burlington. Mayor Miro Weinberger said last week that the city is closing the Sears Lane encampment in the South End because of what he called serious criminal activity and a hostile threat towards first responders. Progressive members of the Burlington City Council are calling on the city administration to halt the eviction process, saying it's abrupt. The city has allowed encampment on city property since last spring, acknowledging a lack of housing for the homeless amid the pandemic.(U.S. News & World Report)The passenger terminal project at Burlington International Airport (BTV) is now underway. The more than 30,000-square-foot expansion is on target to open to travelers next fall and will house five TSA screening lanes, an expanded queuing and, space for concessions. The Terminal Integration Project (TIP) will cost $14.5 million and has received 90 percent funding through an FAA Airport Improvement Program Grant.
