Description

DARIEN, CT — Election Day is approaching fast, and a number of key positions in town will be on the ballot. To help readers make an informed decision on Nov. 2, Patch has reached out to local candidates to share their views on a few topics. Republican Joan Hendrickson, 68, is running for Treasurer in Darien. Occupation: Town Treasurer of Darien, CT (previously spent 31 years as a banker, in financial services management and consulting.) Family: Husband and a son. Experience: I have spent 16 years as the elected Town Treasurer of Darien. Before that I spent 12 years elected to the Darien RTM. Family in government: My husband works in a CT school system. The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: More than one issue as follows: 1) Local control 2) flooding, 3) public safety and 4) health and welfare of our citizens. I am not directly involved in any of these issues because my job is to invest the town's short-term money. Making money from our investments helps fund our town's needs. Critical differences between me and my opponents: Unopposed. Accomplishments: I have been handling this job for 16 years and have been elected to office eight times as well as winning a primary when I initially ran for this position in 2005. Over my tenure, I have kept the town in safe investments that meet all statutory regulations. I have improved investment revenue, eliminated float and improved cash flow even in challenging financial periods.
