Estrada Fire Latest: Cal Fire Makes Progress Monday

CORRALITOS, CA — Firefighters made progress in containing the Estrada fire Monday, though rain Sunday night made no impact on containment come daybreak. The fire burning near Corralitos east of Mount Madonna scorched about 150 acres and was 80 percent contained as of 4:15 p.m. Monday. "Firefighters continue to mop up and strengthen control lines along with suppression repair work," Cal Fire said. The fire sparked Friday afternoon during a controlled burn organized by the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit. Officials planned to burn about 20 acres on Estrada Ranch near the intersection of Hazel Dell and Hidden Canyon roads, but the blaze jumped control lines about an hour before firefighters planned to wrap up the prescribed burn. Firefighters worked through the weekend to battle back the flames and bolster containment lines. The Estrada fire threatened buildings, communications infrastructure, power lines and wildlife habitats, according to Cal Fire. Evacuations were issued Friday, but affected residents have since returned to their homes. Evacuation warnings were no longer in place as of Sunday morning. Showers and rain are possible in the area Tuesday through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast. This is a developing story; refresh for updates.
