JOLIET, IL — Joliet has the motto, "City of Champions" and Joliet basketball star Allie Quigley made her hometown proud, winning the WNBA championship for her Chicago Sky. Quigley had a huge role in Sunday's Sky victory. She scored 26 points and had five assists. "I mean, it's huge. It's what you dream of," Quigley told reporters at a post-game news conference following Sunday's Chicago Sky win. "We put ourselves in this position, so we've got to take advantage of this opportunity. Just do the little things, just go play by play, moment by moment, be detailed, work hard, just want it more than them. I mean, we've just got to do what we're supposed to do, nothing out of ourselves, just be our best." Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot told Chicago Patch's Mark Konkol that Chicago's celebration will take place on Tuesday. Lightfoot said it will be at Millennium Park. "Quigley's another great story. Kid from Joliet, went to DePaul, got drafted, didn't get any traction with two three different teams, came here….and she's just blossomed," Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a radio interview Monday morning. "She's of the deadliest 3-point shooters in league history, and she's a kid of Joliet." The 35-year-old WNBA guard was a star player growing up in Joliet and playing basketball for Joliet Catholic Academy. According to the WNBA, Quigley is a three-time All-Star, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The Joliet native is a two-time WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year, from 2014 and 2015. She is the two-time 3-point contest champion, from 2017 and 2018. She is also the Chicago Sky's all-time leading scorer.
