Meet Bubba the Young Border Collie

Description

Bubba is estimated to be 9 months old and weighs about 35 pounds. He has a timid, shy demeanor and is very loving. He is also still very much a puppy and is a playful, energetic companion. Bubba came to the shelter a shy, fearful, insecure dog and it was concluded that he had been treated poorly. However, after two months in foster care, many of his fearful behaviors have improved greatly, but he still needs help to make more progress. Bubba will do best with an adopter who has experience with his breed and who understands how critical it is that his training be continued using positive reinforcement techniques. Because negative discipline would cause him additional emotional harm and will increase his anxiety, he needs someone who can build his self esteem. Bubba gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy a calm, socially stable canine companion in his next home, which could help him be more confident and content. Bubba rides well in the car and walks well on the leash. He is an intelligent dog who would benefit from obedience training. He has started with agility training and shows great promise. Bubba still has puppy energy and would benefit from daily walks, playing fetch or other activities to burn off his energy. Bubba is not yet house trained, but he is making progress. In addition, Bubba demonstrates some breed specific behaviors and has a desire to chase and/or herd other animals. Therefore, he should not go to a home with cats or livestock. He is crate trained and sleeps there at night. Bubba loves toys and is not destructive of them. He is very food-motivated, which makes it easy for him to be trained.
