SAN JOSE, CA — A man is in jail following a recent standoff in unincorporated San Jose. According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, last Monday at approximately 11:13 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of East Hills Drive for a disturbance involving a gun. Once on scene, deputies said Balbir Singh, 38, barricaded himself inside of the house and held his elderly father against his will. Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT) and Sheriff's Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were immediately activated and responded to the scene. The sheriff's office said CNT used various de-escalation techniques, which ultimately lead to Singh peacefully surrendering to deputies. The incident lasted for approximately 14 hours. There were no injuries sustained from the standoff, deputies said. Singh was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, false imprisonment, criminal threats and probation violation. Singh is currently on county probation for assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and domestic violence.
