Description
Employees/General Laborer needed for MARINE construction company. The General Laborer position assists the skilled craft personnel in performing required construction tasks to complete a project. You must be hard working, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and able to work with a team! You will be required to get in the water from time to time to do your job. We are a drug free workplace. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. (Additional duties may be assigned) Ability to work 8 to 10 hour shifts, on marine construction projects; Sweep and clean the project site; Carry lumber and supplies to Carpenters; help carpenters assemble concrete forms; assist welders when needed; works with cranes and rigging; assist in pouring concrete; act as signal person for the equipment operators; help unload and load trucks; paint, sweep, and wash down equipment on the job site; safely secure the work area to allow only authorized personnel into work zone; load and unload materials from deck, barges, and miscellaneous equipment; ability to swim; ability able to tolerate vibrations, heat, and high noise levels; ability to communicate well as part of a small team and work cooperatively with other colleagues; ability to give, receive, understand, respond to, and follow verbal and written communications and/or instructions; maintain a high standard of ethical behavior, encourage ethical behavior in others, support ethical decisions and actively seek appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS • Must be 18 years of age or older • High school, GED, or equivalent diploma • Proficient working with standard laborer tools such as (but not limited to): sledgehammers, shovels, brooms, vacuums, pressure washers and general hand tools • Must be able to communicate: give, receive, understand, follow and respond to verbal and written instructions PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position, including: Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water; able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites; able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, safety glasses, personal flotation devices, respirators, etc.) Valid Drivers License, and reliable transportation.
