Description
I have about 22 rabbits, free-range ducks, free-range turkeys, and KuneKune/American Guinea Hog pigs that are ready to butcher. I set the starting date as November 1st but that is not the actual class date. That is just when we can start hanging the meat safely in the smokehouse. You set your class date with me yourself. I think five people per class is perfect. The class I want to offer would start with rabbits and then progress to poultry and end with the pigs. We have been butchering our own meat for years and my children will be teaching most of the class. Small animals can be eaten immediately if refrigeration is not available but with large animals you need to dry, cure, and hang them in a cold space. We have a smoke house that hangs with meat all year round after salting and smoking. We can walk you through how to build and use one. Legally I cannot teach you or butcher my own animals for you. The fee of the class allows you to buy the animals from me and then I teach you how to butcher your animal during the class. If we turn this into an all-day event I will serve lunch grown here on our homestead. I would need to know food allergies. We have other food production going on at the farm if you are interested in a different class. Examples are: winter gardening, canning, dehydrating, wood stove use, milking and making cheese, greenhouse building and maintenance. If you are interested please email me. I don't give out my phone number until I know who is coming. I am limited to the number of animals that I have coming to butchering age. If you want to have a class just for your family each person needs a rabbit or poultry. If you want to bring your own livestock that is okay as well. The cost of the class is $100 per person and I will take that in trade as well. Equivalent amounts of hay, firewood, lumber, cloth, water barrels, ibc totes, fruit tree starts, seeds, other goods and services. If you want to trade I will need to reserve the right to be bartering...the goods need to be worth the full $100.
