Description
First gig we would do is in the third week of December. You will be replacing a very good, flexible drummer. From the Stones to Willie, ZZ Top to Dobie Gray, The Band, James Brown, my band plays a lot different styles of music as a trio. We play mostly ‘50s through the ‘80s - early rock and roll, blues, country, ballads, some with a latin-type feel that a lot of music had in the ‘60s, funky ‘70s dance. I do all the singing and guitar, and some synth leads.
I’m going to say that my last two drummers have been younger than me by 20-30 yrs. They were church drummers would could really play and handle different styles. On a scale of 1-10, they were 10s, and that is what I need to play my best, and improvise freely. They each are good enough to be busier than I can provide, and that’s ok. I had them each for a few years and their playing had so few issues that it was hardly worth mentioning. I need solid rhythm and also the ability to improvise. We play out about once a month.
