Description

ARIDE - 2-Day Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement In-Person The Oklahoma Drug Recognition Expert Program is hosting a, 2-day Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) courses November 8TH & 9TH . It will be held at the Moore Norman Technology Center, 13301 S. Penn Ave. OKC, OK 73170 (8am-4pm). The ARIDE program was developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to assist officers in roadside impairment enforcement. Although the intent of this program does not qualify a person as a DRE, this program bridges the gap between alcohol and drug impairment recognition enforcement. Officers who attend will learn how to observe, identify and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs, alcohol or a combination of both. You will be given an overview of types of drug categories and the physiological effects these drugs have on the human body. In addition, you will learn of medical conditions and other situations that can produce similar signs of impairment, will receive the latest updates in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, and will be informed on the legal issues associated with impaired driving as well as pre- and post-arrest procedures. The first day is an S.F.S.T. refresher course and re-certification and the second day involves drug-driving (both prescription drugs and street drugs) and Oklahoma specific legal update. This is a required course for any officer who plans to apply for future DRE Schools and will give some insight as to what it’s all about. ARIDE is also suggested for officers working the ASAP Overtime program, provided they haven’t already attended one. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Sgt. David Roberts at (e-mail: [email protected]) or LT Jeremeh Murphy (e-mail: [email protected]) . This course is open to all officers, even if you have attended the course in the past. The course is set up as a good refresher and to assist officers in roadside impairment.
