Learn what it will take to publish your religious writing. At The Fireplace (5045 S. Ellis Ave, Chicago, IL 60615) Join experienced writer, editor and publisher Jon M. Sweeney for a morning of expert advice and conversation regarding the current reality of spirituality and religion writing and publishing. Hear tips and practical suggestions about how to publish your work. During this workshop we will explore what’s needed in strong book proposals, when and how to find a literary agent, how to work with editors, what to consider when it comes to contracts, how to discern whether something is meant to be a book or an article and when your particular voice and perspective is needed (and when it’s not.) Sweeney is an award-winning spiritual writer. The author of over thirty books including The Complete Francis of Assisi, he is considered an authoritative voice on the life and spirituality of Saint Francis. A Catholic, he is married to a rabbi, and their interfaith marriage has been profiled in national media. He lives in Milwaukee with his wife and daughters. Sister Julia Walsh is a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration and part of her congregation’s formation team, serving women who are discerning their vocation. She has a MA in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union and is a certified spiritual director and secondary teacher. As a creative writer, educator, retreat presenter, and speaker she is passionate about exploring the intersection of creativity, spirituality, activism and community life.
