One-day special education law & advocacy program focusing on: law, rights, and responsibilities; SMART IEPs; advocacy tactics and strategies 6 CLE/approved (0.5 ethics & 0.5 professionalism) & 0.6 CEU-Approved. The event will adhere to all guidelines put forth by the Georgia Department of Public Health, State of Georgia, Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, and/or the Centers for Disease Control recommended to minimize the spread of COVID-19/coronavirus and in place at the time of the event. DISABILITY ISSUES ARE CONFUSING FOR SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND ATTORNEYS ALIKE. THIS ONE-DAY SPECIAL EDUCATION LAW & ADVOCACY PROGRAM FOCUSES ON FOUR AREAS: Special Education Law, Rights & Responsibilities. Tests & Measurements to Measure Progress & Regression SMART Individual Education Plans (IEPs) Introduction to Tactics & Strategies for Effective Advocacy. Conference fee includes lunch, a Wrightslaw highlighter pen, three Wrightslaw books-Wrightslaw: Special Education Law, 2nd Ed., Wrightslaw: From Emotions to Advocacy, 2nd Ed., and Wrightslaw: All About IEPs provided the morning of the conference and then, within a week after the program, Wrightslaw will email those three books to each attendee in the adobe.pdf format. The three print and pdf books retail for $103.70. EARLY BIRD registrants will receive FREE adobe.pdf downloads of Wrightslaw: Special Education Law, 2nd Ed. and Wrightslaw: Special Education Legal Developments and Cases 2017, which includes all of the 2017 U. S. Court of Appeals special education cases and the two 2017 U. S. Supreme Court cases, Fry and Endrew F., which have a retail value of $34.90. CLE/CEU CREDIT: 6 CLEs with 0.5 ethics & 0.5 professionalism (continuing legal education/approved) credits through the State Bar of Georgia (including 0.5 ethics/0.5 professionalism) and 0.6 CEUs (continuing education units) through Georgia Southern University are approved. A. Kelly Neal, Esq. is currently a volunteer advocate specializing in education matters in the Macon-Regional Office of Georgia Legal Services Program. She is a 2005 graduate of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School. Neal has brought in Peter Wright, Esq., a nationally recognized expert in the area of special education law, to educate the public at the Wrightlsaw Special Education Law & Advocacy fundraisers to benefit the Georgia Legal Services Program. Georgia Legal Services Program's mission is to provide civil legal services for persons with low incomes, creating equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty.
