... Like many of you... our pet is an important emotional part of our family, and the most naive. They have no idea of the outside world, and what could happen when they run off to smell the flowers.
We have always trained our pets to recognize their home, the front yard and the neighborhood. We've been fortunate to have three rescue dogs in a row.... not leave the property.... when the gate was left open, garage door closed or front door closed. They would just stay at the front door and sometimes actually bang against it or bark... "Let me in".
Your pet can be trained to understand techniques to avoid heart ache. Stolen pets, fireworks, lightning etc are unpredictable... but you have to be smarter on the basics and it starts the first day with treats and gentle work.
Look up some training methods and you tube videos on how to. Good luck.
