Here are the top stories in Burlington today: A letter from 16 local businesses is calling on city officials to launch new safety protocols to protect employees working late and early downtown. After months of debate over staffing at the Burlington Police Department, the number of officers has fallen below the cap set by the City Council last summer. Mayor Miro Weinberger says the city is working with the Business Association to use private security at key times during the day, on top of other measures.(WCAX)The Burlington High School homecoming football game turned into a "drag ball" runway at halftime. About 30 students and faculty members donned drag queen and king garb while a big crowd in rainbow colors cheered them on. Andrew LeValley, an English teacher and alliance adviser at the school, came up with the idea. Said LeValley, "I was just really hoping to give our students — [both those] who are [out] and the students that were in the stands who are not out — a moment to shine and feel loved, and know that there is a place for them in public schools."(Spectrum News)The United States District Court in Burlington has sentenced Vermont man Craig Cowles for evading over $250,000 in taxes.
