Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today: A missing North Carolina mother's body and vehicle have been found, after she was reported missing about a week ago. The body was discovered in Fairfield County, SC late last week. The woman's ex-boyfriend was arrested in Myrtle Beach and charged with first-degree murder. He will be extradited to Mecklenburg County in NC. Myrtle Beach Police worked with the FBI, Gastonia, NC Police, Mecklenburg County missing persons department, and SLED in a multi-agency investigation. (WBTW) A person who intervened in a domestic dispute at the Ocean Reef Resort on Saturday night was shot and injured during an altercation. The situation occurred when two people were having a domestic dispute and the person stepped in. They were shot in the process. The suspect fled the scene, but was later arrested after crashing their car north of Myrtle Beach. The suspect is from North Carolina, and will be charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. The injured person is expected to recover. (WPDE) On Saturday, North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex hosted the "What a difference a mile makes walk" to raise awareness of domestic violence. Mayor Marilyn Hatley stated there have been 207 domestic violence cases in the city so far this year. NMB Police Chief Thomas Dennis feels the key towards change will be educating the public with more events like the one that happened this weekend. State Senator Greg Hembree was on hand at the event, and spoke about the new domestic violence shelter that is being built in Horry County. (WPDE)UPDATE: A pedestrian who was killed on Highway 17 near Atlantic Beach was identified as Nicholas Shroyer, 39, of Orlando, Florida. The vehicle that struck Shroyer was a police vehicle driven by an officer of the NMB Department of Public Safety. Charges are not expected to be filed. (WMBF) Socastee American Legion Post 40 reopened this past weekend. The post has had some bad luck over the past five years or so, flooding twice and catching fire. Members had to relocate their meetings to the public library, and the facility was moved away from the water to prevent flooding in the future. A grand reopening celebration was held at the new facility on Saturday, with Post Commander Douglas Vining presiding over the festivities. It is working on solutions for better road marking, traffic signals and possibly widening of the roads. The next meeting is December 8th.
