Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Sunday October 17th, 2021! First, today's weather: Clouds and sun; not as warm. High: 71 Low: 44. Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: It's the end of the road for Mel Rapton Honda. This family owned business has been around forever, but it's the end of the legacy this weekend as the family finalizes the sale and transition of all three of its locations. All 100 employees will retain their jobs and the Raptons will retire to spend more time with their families. I bought a fun little Del Sol from them decades ago when I first moved to the area. It's sad to see them go. (KCRA3) Two people are recovering after receiving burn injuries following a fire Friday night near 39th and T streets in Sacramento. The fire was fully contained by Saturday morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (ABC10) A Sacramento woman has been charged with defrauding the California Department of Public Health. According to court documents, Christine Iwamoto, who was a former manager at CDPH's Office of AIDS, billed CDPH for work from her "consulting business," which included purchasing large numbers of gift cards under the guise of "patient incentives" and keeping them for herself. In total, $2 million in personal benefits were allegedly obtained by Iwamoto and five others. If guilty, she faces a fine of up to $750,000 and a maximum of 20 years in prison. (FOX40)The Soapbox Derby hits Folsom this weekend! If you haven't come out for this event before, you're in for a treat! Kids will be flying past you in the coolest gravity propelled contraptions you've ever seen. The Folsom Soapbox Derby is in its third year. While the event will bring regular competitors to town, it will also provide local youngsters with the opportunity to compete. A select number of available soap box racers will once again be reserved for area youth to take part in the event. The event started on Saturday, but you can catch the second day of it today in Old Folsom. Grab a Snook's chocolate treat and settle in to watch the festivities! (Folsom Telegraph)When Campbell's Soup left Sacramento in 2012, it took about 800 jobs with it, and left a bit of a mess to clean up. In December 2013, an affiliate of Hackman Capital Partners purchased the site in partnership with the Mill Valley-based industrial asset recovery company Rabin Worldwide. They were able to quickly lease out the office space, but the manufacturing space was less desirable, with a price tag of over $30M to tear it down and prepare the space for redevelopment. But ingenuity hatched a brilliant plan. The space came with an unusual perk: 165 million gallons of sewage allowance, set aside to handle Campbell's water-based manufacturing processes. So, the developers set about selling those allowances to make enough money to refurbish the space. It's gold in terms of industrial space - which is now in high demand for places to store, transition and move online products. The developer expects to have enough jobs to at least cover what was lost when Campbell's left town.
