(ABC10) The holidays, while happy, can also be a struggle, especially for single-parent households. That's why non-profit Single Mom Strong is using fall festival as a time to launch its holiday Adopt A Family program, where single moms can be selected to get a holiday meal and special gifts for themselves and their children. Single-mom-led families will be adopted based on the story they share and their needs. You can register to participate or see how you can help online. (Good Day Sacramento) Pets and people need vaccinations. That's why Sacramento Public Health, the Front Street Animal Shelter and the Mexican Consulate of Sacramento teamed up to host a unique vaccination clinic on Saturday. On one side of Sleep Train Arena's parking lot people were lined up to get their pets vaccinated and chipped. Then they drove around to the other side to get themselves a COVID and/or flu shot. Keeping families healthy is a great way to spend a Saturday! The group does these clinics once per month in different neighborhoods throughout Sacramento. (FOX40) The Sacramento Beer Fest was a winner again this year, bringing in an estimated $250K for the non-profit Runnin' for Rhett. 100 breweries participated and every last drop of the beer is donated so that the maximum amount of those proceeds can go toward the charity. The income will fund Sacramento region afterschool sports programs. (KCRA3)A Folsom State Prison guard credits four inmates for saving his life after he suffered a heart attack. One of the inmates had a background in medicine. The inmates and the guard are all part of the California Prison Inmate Authority's braille program and have become close due to their shared work. Prison staff and braille program member Jeff Snoozy collapsed inside his office and nearly died. Inmate Robbie Williams fell back on his training as a paramedic and nursing assistant and helped stabilize Snoozy as others went for help. Snoozy said he may retire, but looks forward to returning and thanking those workers face to face.
