Description
We humbly invite you to attend the special 90th Birthday Celebration of Civil Rights Matriarch, Dr. Naomi Ruth Barber King & award Gala 2021 As you may know, Mrs. King is the widow of Rev. Alfred Daniel (A. D.) King, sister-in-law to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Dr. Christine King Farris. The Foundation would be honored to have you join us, Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Conference Center, 1630 Metropolitan Pkwy, Atlanta Georgia 30310 for an evening of cultural enrichment as we celebrate the legacy of the Civil Rights movement We will showcase our youth and pass on the torch to the younger generation of leaders. The struggle continues; every generation must fight to sustain it until we can realize the Beloved Community where poverty, war/violence, and racism no longer prevail in our communities and our nation. Rev. A. D. King’s sense of purpose and his strong moral conscience led him to continue to fight the “triple evils” of racism, poverty and war. In addition to his overall leadership and involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, some of Rev. King’s most important contributions to the movement were recruiting, training, and mobilizing students engaged in peaceful protests, marches, sit-ins, and rallies. Rev. King was also chosen to lead the Poor People’s Campaign, wherein tens of thousands of people from across the United States gathered at the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. His commitment and dedication to the movement for equity, freedom, jobs, and justice for all are illustrated in the 2009 documentary entitled “Rev A D King: Brother to Dream: Behold The Dream”. He paid dearly with his life, preaching love and nonviolence as instruments of change, not war. Mrs. Naomi King supported her husband’s activism, often by his side. Keeping Rev. A. D. King’s memory and legacy alive, she picked up the mantle. Mrs. King and Dr. Babs Onabanjo established the A. D. King Foundation which continues her husband’s work with young people around the country and abroad. The youth programs of the foundation expose youth to the skills of leadership, conflict resolution, job readiness, access to healthcare, voting rights, and encouragement to seek secondary education. Mrs. King holds awards and special recognitions, such as the recipient of the S. C. L. C. Rosa Parks Freedom Award, Hope Worldwide Living Legend Award, A. D. King Foundation: Truth Finder Award, Principled Life Award, Zambians Freedom, Justice and Peace Award, Global Citizens Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, African Leadership Magazine, many proclamations from various states and more. She was featured in the AARP documentary “Voices of Civil Rights", and holds memberships in NAACP, SCLC, SCLC Women, and American Bridge Association. She continues to travel and speak around the world. She remains a tireless advocate for youth empowerment. Dr. King continues to fight against injustice and racism. For these and many more reasons, we request that you provide your commendation of Dr. Naomi Ruth Barber King’s 90th Birthday and the 12th Annual Youth Empowerment Gala and Awards.
