MANASSAS PARK, VA — A 22-year-old Woodbridge man was stabbed in Manassas Park on Thursday, according to a report from the City of Manassas Park Police Department. He was flown to a hospital where he underwent surgery for "serious injuries," police said. The suspect, who authorities identified as a 20-year-old man from Waldorf, Maryland, was arrested on Thursday. The suspect, Richard Toland, was charged with one count of malicious wounding. The incident was first reported to authorities as a shooting. Manassas Park police officers responded to the incident in the 600 block of Palisades Circle at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday to investigate. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the victim laying in the street with a stab wound to the lower abdomen, according to the police report. Bystanders in the area directed officers to the suspect, who was walking in the area. Authorities claimed they recovered a knife and a firearm from the scene, but they did not say whether any shots were fired. The police department said the stabbing occurred after an argument between two coworkers at a moving company. After the stabbing, an off-duty paramedic provided first aid to the victim while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive on the scene.
