Press release from the New Orleans Fire Department: October 15, 2021 On Friday, October 15, 2021 at 8:06 am, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 911 call reporting a fire near the intersection of Washington Ave and Danneel St. The first NOFD company arrived to the scene of this two-story, three unit apartment building at 1936/34 and 1934A Washington Ave at 8:12 am. Upon arrival firefighters noticed heavy smoke coming from the upper rear of the building. Firefighters were advised that all three residents had escaped safely prior to them arriving on the scene. A second alarm was requested at 8:17 am to assure that firefighters would be able to quickly bring this incident under control, which they did at 8:48 am. The fire was mostly contained to the upstairs rear of the building but was believed to likely had started in the vent of a downstairs rear bathroom.   Eighteen NOFD units carrying thirty-nine Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control.
