Description

Press release from the City of Champaign: October 15, 2021 On October 15, 2021 local law enforcement, honored guests, elected officials, and members of the public attended the annual Champaign Police Memorial Ceremony at West Side Park. The ceremony was held to honor law enforcement officers worldwide who have died in the line of duty. Champaign Police honored fallen heroes Thomas Dodsworth, Robert Tatman, and Christopher Oberheim at the well-attended event. During the ceremony, the Medal of Valor and Purple Heart Awards were presented to the family of Officer Oberheim and to Officer Jeffrey Creel for their distinguished service with exceptional courage, regardless of personal safety during a tragic call for service on May 19, 2021. This year's ceremony was postponed from May due to the pandemic, and Champaign Police are pleased so many were able to attend this moving event in-person, despite the rainy weather.
