ABOUT THE CERAMIC TILE APPRENTICE POSITION The Ceramic Tile Apprentice will join a team collectively focused on taking Clayhaus to the next level while learning the ancient trade of producing handmade, custom, ceramic tile in the unique Clayhaus way, alongside a Master ceramic tile maker and fellow ceramic tile makers. We are looking for a person who is accountable, responsible, and of good character, enthusiastic about embarking on a career in ceramic tile production. We’d love to have someone be part of our team for several years, learn the trade and grow with our business. Lots of opportunity exists for the right candidate. We are a small and mighty team and the job requires seamless collaboration in order to produce a tile product efficiently and accurately and to complete all customer job orders as quickly as possible. We value clay experience, but we are not a pottery studio and value candidates having mechanical skills, a working knowledge of power tools and those who are comfortable with operating tile machinery. Repetition with careful accuracy is a big part of the job as is having a positive and collaborative attitude. Candidate must be able to work in a variety of positions, i,e. bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, standing for an 8 hour shift, and be able move quickly between work stations. Must be self-sufficient and work independently for entire shift. Candidate must be able to work full 8 hour shift. (no split schedules will be offered) Typical shift for all positions is 8am-4:30pm. Key Responsibilities • Learn all aspects of product tile making • Operating tile press and extruding equipment/machinery • Ceramic tile making operations, including extruding, cutting, and pressing clay • Loading and unloading multiple production electric and gas kilns • Ensuring quality control and verifying all factory orders for accuracy • Sanding and stacking off of greenware • Setting up tile bisque onto spray boards • Building shipping pallets, packing and shipping and verifying tile count • Meet and enforce consistent quality control standards • Cleaning /organization of studio • Other duties as assigned Qualifications and Skills • Mechanically inclined; experience using power tools • Strong Math Skills and accuracy in counting in repetition • Ability to see big picture with regards to production while simultaneously focusing on the small details associated with accuracy and quality • Physical Capability. Must be able to move around easily and lift heavy material up to 50 lbs with agility and coordination • Experience in clay, manufacturing, studio environment is preferred • Positive and fun demeanor-CAN DO ATTITUDE! Must be able to work in a variety of positions i.e. standing, bending, pushing, pulling and moving between workstations.
