This courses educates participants on best practices for managing patients post stroke in a rehab setting. Speaker Bio: Rebecca Wayland graduated from University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2014 with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree. She achieved her board certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) in July 2017 and is credited as a Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS). Rebecca completed advanced training in the rehabilitation of individuals following neurological insult at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX. She currently treats patients with neurological deficits at Jim Thorpe Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital at Southwest Medical Center, specializing in patients recovering from spinal cord injury and stroke.  ​ Course Title: Maximizing Stroke Recovery Throughout the Continuum of Care Course Description: ​In this course, we provide a review of neuroanatomy as it applies to stroke recovery, introduce the task analysis approach to patient care, and a review of best-practice and published clinical practice guidelines available for the treatment of patients recovering from stroke. We cover the selection and prescription of assistive devices, including ankle-foot orthoses, and the application of various therapeutic interventions to maximize outcomes for patients who have experienced a stroke.   Course Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to: Apply neuroanatomy to maximize outcomes following stroke Use principles of motor learning and task analysis to guide intervention selection for individuals post-stroke Select and apply the discussed therapeutic interventions throughout the continuum of care (acute care to outpatient) to patients who have experienced a stroke Time Ordered Agenda: 7:30 am to 8 am Course Registration 8 am to 9 am Neuroanatomy, vascular anatomy, neuroplasticity, and motor learning 9 am to 10 am Research update (Clinical Practice Guidelines) 10 am to 10:15 am Break 10:15 am to 11:15 am Task Analysis and intervention selection 11:15 am to 12:00 pm Upper extremity 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Lunch 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm FES, AFOs, and DME 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm Gait training 2:45 pm to 3:00 pm Break 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm Lab & Closing remarks/questions We offer live and recorded continuing education opportunities on a wide variety of habilitation and rehabilitation topics.
