Description
Roundtable discussion and farm opportunities for local growers, gardeners and the community. The annual Farmers Roundtable will be held Wednesday, November 3rd, 7 p.m., presented by the Sammamish Valley Grange in partnership with 21 Acres and Sammamish Valley Alliance. The Farmers Roundtable will be the first in-person program at the Grange Hall since the Pandemic began. Our Grange families are looking forward to bringing back together local farmers, resident gardeners and community members to these monthly education programs. A variety of topics will be discussed beneficial to both long-term producers and seasonal growers. The program begins with special guests from the National Resource Conservation Services (NRCS) whose programs help farmers reduce soil erosion, enhance water supplies, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damages caused by floods and other natural disasters. Hear from the team about how they can help you apply for grant money to address these areas. Based on the team's recent visit to the Sammamish Valley at the end of this past summer they see lots of opportunity to bring financial resources to farmers here and they are committed to doing most of the work to make that happen! Come a bit early (doors open at 6 p.m.) if you're interested to learn how to make an easy biochar kiln. Meet Neha Krishnakumar, a high school student working on a biochar project to earn her Girl Scout Gold award. Neha will tell you all you need to know to do this on your farm or at home. The Sammamish Valley Grange Hall is located at 14654 148th Ave. NE in Woodinville. All ages are welcome to attend and meet those who are committed to environmental stewardship and who bring local food into our community. Due to the engaging conversation and the popularity of previous Roundtables, this program could extend past the usual 8 p.m. close. Registration not required but recommended in advance for this free program. In working to improve the rural nature of the Sammamish Valley, the Grange shares its mission through educational outreach and neighborly engagement. Membership in the Grange is open to the public. For more information, please e-mail [email protected]. (Due to current coronavirus restrictions, space is limited; we encourage you to register in advance. Masks are required in the Grange Hall.)
