The Kitchen Sisters share interviewing, recording and podcasting skills and work with participants to hone their projects.
Come to the PRX Podcast Garage in the brand-new KQED headquarters to take part in this in-person workshop that will hone your skills for an array of audio projects! This three-hour workshop is led by Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva of The Kitchen Sisters, who will cover interviewing and miking techniques, shaping a podcast, sound gathering, use of archival audio, field recording, equipment, how to make interviewees comfortable, how to frame evocative questions that make for compelling storytelling, how to build a story, how to use sound and music, how to research and how to listen.
The workshop is customized to fit the projects you're working on. People who have attended in the past have come from podcasting, radio, film, multimedia, detective agencies, newspapers, journalism, photography, oral history, historical societies, farms, high schools, colleges, music, ophthalmology, writing, libraries, archives, beer brewing, web design, restaurants, health care organizations, film, cheese-making and beyond. The groups are always lively and good contacts are made.
