Description

What can courts do to respond to Indy and Indiana's eviction crisis? Come find out. Before the pandemic, Indianapolis was gaining momentum around resolving its eviction crisis. The legislature wasn't moving, but public opinion was. We need to get back to those core Landlord-Tenant issues that hurt families before COVID-19, and now are exacerbating this current crisis. Past awareness events looked at why Indianapolis had the second most evictions in the nation in previous years, according to The Eviction Lab at Princeton University (www.evictionlab.org). This time, we look at what the courts can do about it. Three guest speakers will address that topic: Chief Justice Loretta Rush (Indiana Supreme Court) by video remarks recorded for this event, with responses by Judge Garland Graves (Warren Township Small Claims Court) and Fran Quigley (Director, Health & Human Rights Clinic at IU McKinney School of Law). This event is designed especially for volunteers of the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) shelter program at Family Promise, but the public is welcome to attend. COVID-19 policies: Proof of vaccination or proof of negative PCR test is required at the door;Masks are required. We are a partnership of congregations and community organizations responding to the crisis of children and their families who are homeless. We work to eliminate homelessness in Greater Indianapolis.
