Description

Bob’s talk will focus on small-scale hydropower in the northeast and how it is affecting our energy economy. On Friday, November 5, at 5pm, the Jaffrey Civic Center speaker series, “Stories to Share” will continue with speaker Bob King. His topic will be, “Current Events: a local ‘Hydromaniac’ Speaks to the Wonders of Waterpower, the Burgeoning Renewable Energy Sector, Related Policy, and How All of This Won’t Solve the Ecological Crisis By Itself." Bob’s talk will focus on small-scale hydropower in the northeast and how it is affecting our energy economy. As a professional engineer, Bob has been building and operating small hydroelectric plants in New England for 35 years. He works locally (some of us know of the Minnewawa dam in Marlborough), and he consults widely on many different hydro projects – at Historic Harrisville and as far away as Chile. Bob’s work in renewable energy has involved co-authoring a bill for group net metering, passed in 2013 by the New Hampshire house and Senate, serving as Chair of the Advisory Board of the Conservation Law Foundation (N.H. Chapter), President of the Granite State Hydropower Association, and lecturing on environmentally responsible development and small business leadership for Keene State College, Franklin Pierce University, Northeastern, MIT, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The talk is the second in an eight-part, monthly speaker series on the first Friday of each month, October to May The series is supported by our Exclusive Platinum Sponsor Belletete’s, Inc. Joe Steinfield, who writes monthly columns for the Keene Sentinel and the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript, is the moderator for the series. These programs are free of charge, but to help support this event and others like it, donations are appreciated. Advance registration is strongly encouraged.
