TORCH Bearer Event 2021: A high school student's personal experience with homelessness and what TORCH can do to help.
Please join us to hear 16 year old student, Melodie Delili, describe life in high school when homeless. You are invited to come to First United Methodist Church , Oak Ridge, on October 16th at 11:30 (masked) for a 30 minute presentation including a question and answer period over your lunch break. As you leave you will be given a box lunch to take with you.
We had hoped for better but, due to the Delta Variant of COVID-19 and the need for an abundance of caution, TORCH has chosen not to bring a large group of people to have lunch together. In 2021 the TORCH Bearer luncheon will be a hybrid event. You can attend via live stream if you are unable to attend in person.
We are only able to seat 110 individuals safely. You will be notified within one day of registration if you have a seat. If you are unable to attend in person, you can register to live stream the event or wait for the recording to appear on our website.
TORCH hosts one major fund raising event every year. The TORCH Bearer event is always held on the Tuesday of the national Homelessness Awareness Week (the third week in November). TORCH is funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through TN Housing and Development Agency (THDA) through the reembursable Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) to serve homeless. Each dollar given must be matched by donations. The TORCH Bearer Event is what gets us through the increased need for assistance in the winter months.
