It is a great classic comedy, complete with disguise, intrigue, and mistaken identity. This operetta tells the stories of real people rather than the kings, queens, and noblemen found in traditional operas. The characters in Die Fledermaus are people who, though perhaps better off financially than most, essentially live, dress, and act like the members of the audience who are observing them.
