This is the first of four writing workshops put on by the Johnston County Writers Group in conjunction with the NEA Big Read Clayton. This first of four workshops is called "Write It Out: Using Words to Heal Family Bonds." This event is for writers ages 18+. This will be a FREE guided workshop with JoCo Writers like Cindy Brookshire and will be led by Kay Johnson, director of Harbor Inc. Each participant will receive a copy of The House on Mango Street, along with a journal and pen. Participants will read pertinent parts of the book, respond to those in a group setting, and will have time to write, using writing prompts that focus on positive feelings and coping skills. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their writing and to submit their words to be used in a window display at Pizazz during Domestic Abuse Awareness Month –October. Masks are required for this indoor event.
