SEI is seeking students and graduates of participating energy training programs for the position of HVAC Technician, placed with employer partner Eco Performance Builders, funded by MCE rate payers, and employed by SEI through our Energize Careers program. ● Are you seeking employment that offers on-the-job training? ● Do you enjoy using tools and working with your hands? ● Are you SMALL, THIN, strong, physically fit and able to easily crawl through an 18" crawl attic or crawl space? ● If so, please keep reading.......... In this position working with Eco Performance Builders, you'll learn about residential HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and Electrical by working on a team that installs high-efficiency cooling and heating systems. Eco Performance Builders is a licensed HVAC, General, and Insulation contracting company with headquarters in Concord, CA. They train technicians on-the-job so they can be trained "the Eco Performance way" while moving up their Career Ladder(s). The work they do makes homeowners more comfortable, and healthier. ABOUT THIS PROGRAM: The Energize Careers Program allows individuals to gain real-world energy career experience by contributing to a meaningful project related to energy careers. The three goals of the experience are for program participants to: ● Gain useful building performance and electrification skills and techniques. ● Develop technical skills and career readiness through training and work experience. ● Access resources and mentoring to increase participation and success in energy careers. Participants will work 160 hours up to 40 hours per week at an hourly rate of $20 per hour. The position starts as soon as possible, and the project will take place for 160 work hours at Eco Performance job sites, predominantly in the East Bay: central Contra Costa County, Oakland, and Berkeley. **NOTE: Actual location varies based on the position** Applicants must be open to accepting a job at Eco Performance Builders, if it is determined to be a fit by both parties, following this subsidized employment program. APPLICANTS MUST: ● Be mechanically inclined. You enjoy working with your hands and fixing things. You know tools, have done some type of labor in the past (even if at home), and enjoy learning how things work. ● Be FAST! The best EPB team members hustle at a faster-than-average pace. ● Be a small-bodied person and physically fit. You can work inside tiny spaces that are only 18" high, and you're able to hold up your entire body weight as you crouch inside attics or crawl spaces. ● Be proactive and a team player. When you’ve not been tasked with something to do, you find work, even if that means sweeping the warehouse or cleaning out your team’s work vehicle. ● Be seeking a CAREER, not just a job. EPB positions all come with homework, after-work training, and certifications that you'll need to study for in order to become a certified HVAC Technician. EPB will help you study for your EPA certification and will pay for the test on your behalf. However, a considerable amount of the material is self-paced, meaning you’ll study on your own or with work colleagues. ● Have a clean CA driver's license record and your own truck (preferred) or car. ● Be able to pass a background check. You’re free of recent or major crimes in the past many years. ● Be able to pass a drug test by Eco Performance Builders for illegal drugs following this program. ● Be great with details. ● Be able to provide valid Federal I-9 form required identification and authorization for employment ● EPB requires that you’ve been vaccinated for COVID-19 or are willing to become vaccinated before your first day on the job. Bonus points for: ● Having knowledge of hand and/or power tools. ● Having a truck and/or knowing how to tie things down. Eco Performance Builders will provide starter tools, masks, hand sanitizer, and free training every other Thursday evening. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to perform the following tasks: Read/comprehend, write, perform calculations, communicate orally, reason and analyze, use fine finger movements, use a computer and mouse, sit, stand, walk, drive a motorized vehicle, carry and/or lift up to 40 pounds, reach above shoulder level, bend, squat, crouch, kneel, push/pull, grasp. Participants must be willing and able to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and breathe through a full-face respirator while carrying up to 40 pounds of equipment.
