Join Jim Gerhart, SoWe volunteer for a historic walking tour of the Cabbage Hill neighborhood
You are invited to participate in a walking tour of Cabbage Hill history!
Join Jim Gerhart, SoWe volunteer, on a walk along the first two blocks of Poplar and St. Joseph Streets, and rediscover some of the people, houses, and businesses of the early days of the Hill.
In addition, Patricia Heiland-Baxter will discuss the Green Cottage Hotel, and Michael Brenneman will discuss his restoration of several houses on St. Joseph Street.
Bonus: The Vintage Candy Shop is in a historic building that is on the tour. There will be time for a quick visit to the shop to check out the wide variety of candy there.
The tour will start at the corner of Poplar and Filbert Streets, on two dates:
• Saturday, October 16, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
• Saturday, October 23, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
The tour is free, but registration is required. The number of participants is limited
to the first 20 people who sign up for each day.
If we have to reschedule a tour because of heavy rain, the rain date will be October 30.
SoWe is a resident-led community organization supported by Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership and the SoWe Collaborative that works to implement the Southwest Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy. SoWe aims to stem the tide of disinvestment and create a neighborhood that is safe, clean, attractive to economic investment and welcoming to residents and visitors.
