NAUGATUCK, CT — Election Day is approaching fast, and a number of key positions in Naugatuck will be on the ballot. To help readers make an informed decision on Nov. 2, Patch has reached out to local candidates to share their views on various topics of importance in the borough. Patch will post these candidate profiles over the next couple of weeks, so check back often to see the latest. Republican Jeffrey Litke, 40, is running for Board of Education in Naugatuck. Occupation: Human Resources Family: Husband: Andrew Cosenza Experience: Naugatuck Board of Education, Naugatuck Inland Wetlands Commission, and Naugatuck Zoning Commission Family in government: No, no one in my family that I can think of works in politics or government. The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: I think that the most pressing issue facing the Naugatuck Public Schools is students loss of in-person instruction the past 18 or so months. I want to help ensure that our students are provided with the supports that they need in order to make up for some of the in-person instruction that they lost out on. To go along with this and we also need to provide our students with the social and emotional supports that they may need. Critical differences between me and my opponents: I don't like to talk about my differences with the individuals running for the Board of Education. I think that we each have our own views and I hope that the voters know that I will always be there to listen to them and value their input. Accomplishments: I believe that my accomplishments on the Board of Education are evidence of my ability to handle this position. My accomplishments include navigating the budget process, ensuring our students received the best instruction possible during a global pandemic and supporting diversity, and equity and inclusion. Other issues: My overall campaign platform is that I will be someone that will work for you and will always put the students and community first. What else would you like voters to know about you? I am currently in my second term on the Board of Education and I am the current Chair of the Board. Serving on the Board of Education is a great honor. I am someone that listens and welcomes input from all of the Naugatuck Public Schools stakeholders. I have been endorsed by the LGBTQ Victory Fund in my re-election bid. I am proud of this endorsement as the LGBTQ Victory Fund is a national organization that seeks to elect members of the LGBTQ community to positions in all levels of government. I think that it speaks volumes that I am someone that will advocate for ALL of our students. I encourage anyone who has any questions about my campaign or stances to reach out to me.
