NAUGATUCK, CT —Election Day is approaching fast, and a number of key positions in Naugatuck will be on the ballot. To help readers make an informed decision on Nov. 2, Patch has reached out to local candidates to share their views on various topics of importance in the borough. Patch will post these candidate profiles over the next couple of weeks, so check back often to see the latest. Democrat Rocky Vitale, 66, is running for Burgess in Naugatuck. Occupation: Retired From The Insurance Industry Family: Wife Sue and three grown children. Experience: Current Burgess, formerly Board of Ecuatiin 16 years. Naugatuck Finance Board 2 years.Chaired Noise Ordinance Committee, and Chairs Litter Task Force. Member EMS Board of Directors. Member Naugatuck Historical Society Board of Directors. Birgess liaison to the Police and Fire Departments. Family in government: No The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: Economic development is the key to growth and will provide tx relief, now and in the future.. As with any municipality, the first order of business is planned, controlled growth. Any municipality must be welcoming to new businesses, and support existing ones and encourage a mix of both large corporations and mom and pop stores. This is the only way to alleviate the tax burden. I support local initiatives for tax breaks for certain businesses that will promote growth well into the future. Critical differences between me and my opponents: I'm sure other candidates may do the same, but I take pride in listening to residents concerns and, whenever possible, acting on them. I believe you can't legislate from behind a desk at a meeting. We must see what's going on in the community, and visit areas of concern and be proactive for solutions to issues. Accomplishments: I've sat on many committees. As chair of the Noise Ordinance committee, I listened to residents concerns and refined the local noise ordinance. As Chair of the Litter Task Force, along with other members, We are proactively taking steps to combat litter and dumping and, in conjunction with the police department, seeking toidentify and prosecute those who dump. I successfully championed for the formation of our dog park, and which was funded by grants and donations. Other issues: must be welcoming to new businesses, support existing ones and encourage a mix of both large corporations and mom and pop stores. This is the only way to alleviate the tax burden. Exciting things are being done! Businesses are expanding, and Rubber Avenue will be refurbished to the benefit of the business owners. North Main road replacement is completed. Cross Street reconstruction has already drawn the attention of large businesses seeking to come to the Borough. The Rubber Avenue corridor has plans for improvement. Planned Development of the Port of Naugatuck will be a game changer for tax relief. These are noticed by businesses as an integral part of the community fabric that will supply them with employees. Economic development starts with a welcoming attitude for all. More funds are being spent this year for road reconstruction than ever before. Our partnership with Waterbury in developing a section in the industrial park is huge. We must also work towards upgrading all of our parks and invite new forms of recreation for our resident. What else would you like voters to know about you? Priorities are set by the citizens, balanced with any knowledge a burgess may have that isn't available to the public. As burgess, I actively seek out people's opinions and ideas and integrate these into my thought process. I have served the Borough in one capacity or another in volunteer positions for overt 25 years. This is my home. I, along with many others, want to see if flourish. I raised three wonderful children here. They had success in school and now have moved on to success in the working world. That is what this Borough is all about: helping everyone achieve success as much as possible. As a resident for 37 years, and I am committed to Naugatuck. I welcome residents comments and ideas.
