Here are the top stories in Burlington today: After Wednesday's police raid involving methamphetamines and firearms, the Sears Lane homeless encampment on the South End will be dispersed as of Oct. 19. Though Mayor Miro Weinberger previously supported the encampment, his position changed after the incident. "It is clear that the encampment at Sears Lane has become untenable and unacceptable." In Vermont Federal Court on Thursday, 37-year-old Sean Fiore pleaded guilty to murder for hire, conspiracy to kidnap and murder a person overseas, conspiracy to produce child pornography, and possession of child pornography. Though Fiore had been released earlier under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office, he was put back behind bars as authorities discovered more about his crimes.
