DANBURY, CT — The state Municipal Election is Tuesday, Nov. 2. Patch contacted candidates to answer questions about their campaigns. Republican Greg Davis, 51, is running for City Council, Ward 6 in Danbury. Occupation: Data And Information Sales Family: Wife of 26 years, Amy. Daughters Paige ( 24) and Hailey ( 22). 3 rescue dogs and one recently rescued cat.My wife was born and raised in CT and both Paige & Hailey were raised here. Experience: No Family in government: No The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it: To say there is a single issue that's the most pressing would potentially minimize the other issues or the reality that they're all intertwined to a degree. The key overarching issue is how do we keep Danbury the thriving, unique city that it is, focus on education, keep our taxes low, our city safe, empower our small businesses and all of our people, while managing for current and future growth. Fiscal responsibility is a key reason Danbury has been such a shining light in CT. Under Republican leadership, we are or have been: • Ranked the 2nd best city to live in the US• #1 Most livable city in CT• One of the safest cities in CT• #1 city in CT to retire• 10th most diverse city in the US• Lowest Mill Rate of ANY big CT city• And thanks to the republican City Council's vote, received the BEST bond rating in Danbury's history: AAA rating which is meaningful for our futureEducation is critical and we have to solve for that now and plan for the future. While there are many talking points floating around by my opponents and their party, they have not once focused on solutions other than "let's spend more" which results in higher taxes and lower property values and does not solve for overcrowding in the least. It's why I support the new Public Charter School, which serves Danbury's most in need community and over 750 students, and why I support the smart educational spending the Danbury Republicans have championed: * New Danbury High School Freshman Academy* New Westside Middle School Academy* New Granville Avenue Early Childhood Center* Ellsworth Avenue School expansion which is currently under construction* Career Academy - a FIRST of its kind milestone Middle and High School which is soon to be under construction* Advocate for the construction of a New Public Charter School Critical differences between me and my opponents: The differences between me and the two incumbents I am running against is that I am not a career politician. I am entering into this race because of my love for Danbury and because I want to truly be a voice for everyone in my ward. I have seen my opponents campaign on a platform of keeping taxes low while actually voting against what they say. They have chosen to align with special interests when it comes to education, and I believe education is bipartisan and there is no room for playing politics when it comes to our children. And finally, I firmly support our first responders in Danbury, and as safety in our community is vital. But my opponents are endorsed by a party (Working Families Party) who actively say their goal is to defund the police Accomplishments: My background suits me well for City Council. I started my career in municipal finance ( and my Grandfather, mother and step father worked for the City where I grew up). In addition to being one of, if not the only candidate with this background, I also worked for a ratings agency. I understand the importance of smart spending and how to help a city grow properly. I've also owned 3 small businesses, which gives me a true passion for helping Danbury's small businesses thrive and I spent the last 20 years in the Data and Information business. I know and value research and have a deep expertise in research and cutting through the noise. Currently I help companies and financial institutions avoid money laundering, and bribery or corruption and stop human trafficking. My career and personal life have always been focused on service to others in some way shape or form. Other issues: First and foremost, I work for you Danbury. It seems politicians have forgotten this is the key element to being in office, we represent the people, all of them. Other than that, my issues are clear and simple: • Fiscal Responsibility (and keeping taxes low)• Education• Improving our roads, which is a priority for everyone• Making Downtown a destination• Supporting small business• Safety• Wisely managing and supporting growth• Health, and wellness and improving outdoor infrastructure What else would you like voters to know about you? I've lived here for over 20 years and I'm running because I want to give back. I raised my daughters here and I am proud to call Danbury home. I was a long time soccer coach in Danbury and I currently mentor veterans who are separating from the military and going into private career and I've always been active in the community and giving back.
