Here are the top stories in Irving today: Arlington school district is late paying its bills, and some members of the community aren't happy about it. The school district hired RJ Construction for winter storm repairs to Sam Houston High School in February. The company was still unpaid in June, leading it to file a lawsuit against the district for the outstanding $1.2 million. Dozens of people showed their support for RJ Construction on Thursday at a protest outside the school district office. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)Southlake teachers are befuddled and troubled with a top district administrator's request to balance Holocaust books with 'opposing' views. District spokesperson Karen Fitzgerald said the remarks were reflective of the administration trying to help teachers comply with House Bill 3979 and Texas Senate Bill 3, which require educators to share multiple perspectives when considering 'controversial' issues. The district later responded that the remarks were "in no way to convey that the Holocaust was anything less than a terrible event in history." On October 5, Dallas County Commissioners voted to approve an extension of a program related to individuals who have been declared incompetent to stand trial.
