First, today's weather: Plenty of sunshine. High: 82 Low: 52. Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: If you're attempting to burglarize a home, maybe don't lock yourself in the car in the garage. That's what this genius perp did at a home in Auburn. Needless to say, the police were able to nab the dude, who was from Sacramento, without much fanfare. No big surprise, it seems there was some methamphetamine involved in the whole debacle. (ABC10) Visitors to Sacramento's most popular park, McKinley Park will find some new amenities now that the water vault project is complete. City officials cut the ribbon on the new park Friday morning opening a new multi-use field, new jogging paths, restrooms, picnic areas, barbecue pits, benches and shade structures. The $31-million project was finished ahead of schedule. (KCRA3) Sacramento police detectives are investigating the vandalism of a Black Lives Matter mural on the Capital Stage Co. building as a possible bias or hate crime. The building is home to a professional nonprofit theater company. The group said it is working with the artist to restore the mural. (SFGate) Sacramento has paid $11 million to settle a lawsuit after a car hit a boy leaving him with brain damage. The incident also killed his grandmother. The settlement is one of the city's largest such payouts. QuiChang Zhu, 72, and her grandson Jian Hao Kuang, 6, were using a crosswalk to Freeport Boulevard when they were struck by the motorist. The intersection has no traffic lights and the markings were confusing and may have been visible only to the pedestrians and not to oncoming traffic. The settlement was included in a 320-page city staff budget report issued last June, but only uncovered this week by the Sacramento Bee. (CBS Sacramento) Four people have suffered major injuries after their plane crashed in the Sacramento County town of Wilton east of Elk Grove. A man, a pregnant woman and two teens were badly injured in the crash, but remarkably all are expected to survive. An FAA spokesperson says they currently don't know the make or model of the plane.
