Rise and shine, Bedford! Let's start your Sunday with everything you need to know going on today in our area. First, today's weather: Partly sunny and cooler. High: 65 Low: 48. Here are the top stories today in Bedford: The largest solar array in New Hampshire has been approved. In Roger Wood's recent podcast, Timothy Clougherty, Deputy Director of the city of Manchester public works department, spoke about the long-awaited project. The capped landfill site off of Dunbarton Road in Manchester is the location of a new solar array that can power up to 500 homes. After years of discussion, the forward-thinking project was approved by the Aldermen and is moving full speed ahead. City officials broke recently ground with Kearsarge Energy of Boston. The solar energy project is slated to be completed sometime this year. (Patch)An unexpected stowaway: If you fly Southwest Airlines from the Manchester-Boston regional airport, you may know that the airline allows pets to fly with you as long as they meet their pet requirements and are small enough to fit in an approved carrier under the seat in front of you A couple flying Southwest to Las Vegas, Nevada made headlines last week when their chihuahua unknowingly hid in their suitcase, tucked away in a cowboy boot. When Southwest airlines said the suitcase was over the weight limit, they opened the bag and found the surprise stowaway in the suitcase. The airport agent kindly offered to take care of the dog while the family was away. The next time you fly, be sure to make sure your pets are accounted for. (WMUR)The Bedford Police Department is asking our community to help Turn the Town Red during the National Red Ribbon Week Drug-Prevention Initiative. Police Chief John Bryfonski is asking the community to join the Bedford Police Department and BeBold, a Bedford-based, non-profit drug awareness, education, and prevention coalition, to show support for the National Red Ribbon Week drug-prevention initiative from Oct. 23-31. Residents and businesses will be hanging red lights and/or red bows or ribbons on their homes and places of business to support the message for Bedford to stay drug and alcohol free.
