AURORA, IL — Community members can learn more about the proposed City of Aurora Public Works Facility at an open house Wednesday evening. The proposed facility would be built on the 25-acre site between Liberty Street and New York Street, near the border between Kane and DuPage counties, officials wrote on the City of Aurora's Facebook page. In November 2019, the Aurora City Council unanimously approved a $1.833 million contract with two companies to design and engineer the new building, the Chicago Tribune reported. The project is estimated to cost between $25 million and $30 million and it would consolidate Public Works functions currently spread between three buildings, according to the Tribune. At the meeting, city officials will answer questions about the proposal and discuss the project in more detail. The meeting will take place at from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Aurora Customer Service Center/Fire Station 8 (3770 McCoy Drive). Residents and interested stakeholders are welcome to attend, city officials said on Facebook. Anyone who is unable to attend can email their questions and/or suggestions to [email protected].
