By Lee Chilcote, The Land October 15, 2021 A proposed development from Sustainable Community Associates on West 17th Street in Tremont won high praise from the Cleveland Planning Commission for its elegant, contemporary design and incorporation of a landscaped "park walk" open to the public. "The terraced landscape provides a private space for tenants, but the developers also wanted to open that space to be a community walkway," Larissa Burlij with Bialosky Architects told the planning commission on Friday, October 1st. "They wanted the area to be pedestrian-friendly." The park walk would be at least five feet wide at its narrowest point, Burlij said, and it would expand in other areas to provide places for seating. Bollards would be provided for lighting, along with sconces on the apartment suites. The townhouses, which would be for rent and would add to SCA's investments in the area including the new Lincoln apartment building, would include two units: one on the first floor and an additional unit occupying the second and third floors. The exterior of the units would include pre-weathered cedar, terra cotta brick, and bronze metal cladding on the walls and roofs, a contemporary look that would be softened by the warm brick and wood materials, the developers said.
