Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily. First, today's weather: Plenty of sun. High: 83 Low: 52. Here are the top stories today in Concord: Contra Costa County's redistricting effort is a once-a-decade process of redrawing the boundaries for supervisorial districts after the U.S. Census. As part of that process, the county's third public hearing on redistricting will be held starting at 6:15 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. For more information about redistricting and how to provide input, visit www.CoCoRedistricting.org or the County website's homepage at www.contracosta.ca.gov. (County of Contra Costa) High school tight end Cooper Flanagan of De La Salle High School will join The Notre Dame Fighting Irish next year. Flanagan received his Notre Dame scholarship offer Aug. 6, after a few months of building a relationship with Irish tight ends coach John McNulty. Rivals ranks Flanagan as a four-star prospect, the No. 18 player in California and the No. 17 tight end in the country. With a surname like Flanagan, maybe it was fate? (Irish Illustrated)The California Continuing Education Association has awarded top honors to two of Concord's own. Teacher Yuri Buechler and counselor Keegan Pittman both of Olympia High School were honored last month. Buechler was awarded California Teacher of the Year and his colleague Pittman was Counselor of the Year for the 2019-20 school year. (Pioneer Publishers)Walnut Creek Evangelical Friends Church is again hosting homeless families as part of its Winter Nights program. As Winter Nights enters its 18th season of serving homeless families, the program is expanding to other houses of worship in the area. This season, Winter Nights executive director Bill Shaw said more than 18 houses of worship are back on board serving in host roles. Another 30-plus faith communities are contributing in co-hosting capacities by providing food, meal preparation, and volunteer support for daily breakfast, lunch and dinner service as well as tutoring, games and crafts to keep the youngsters engaged. (Pioneer Publishers)The Danville Town Council met to consider how to allocate Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds that were received as a part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. The town has received $5.3 million and is eligible to receive up to $10.6 million in Recovery Funds over the next two years. The funds will be allocated to help with mental health services, homeless services, senior services and more. With the council's action, the appropriated ARPA funds are expected to be distributed by the end of October. (News 24/680) Today's Concord Daily is brought to you by Verizon, a Patch Brand Partner.
