Since 1963, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities has presented Humanitarian Awards annually. Since 1963, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities has presented Humanitarian Awards annually to honor individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of respect and understanding among people of diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. On occasion, local corporations or organizations are recognized with the Distinguished Merit Citation Award for their efforts in making Virginia’s communities more inclusive.  At this time, VCIC is planning an in-person event, but the organization will continue to monitor the latest guidance from the CDC as the event grows closer to make sure that the Awards are conducted with utmost care for the health and safety of all. 2022 Humanitarian Award recipients are: Christopher C. Carter, Sr. Sharyn L. Fox Ethlyn McQueen-Gibson Robert F. Shuford, Jr. Helmuth W. ‘Chip’ Trieshmann Jeffrey C. Verhoef See complete list of former VCIC honorees. In addition to honoring outstanding community members, the Humanitarian Awards Dinners also serve as a platform to showcase for the mission and programs of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities works with schools, businesses, and communities to achieve success by addressing prejudices, in all forms, in order to approve academic achievement, increase workplace productivity, and enhance local trust. Through workshops, retreats, and customized programs that raise knowledge, motivation, and skills, VCIC develops leaders who work together to achieve success throughout the Commonwealth.  The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization under the IRS tax code.
