Water Wayfinding explores natural and infrastructure water in our community through the stories of our neighbors. What: This walking tour and creative studio features local speakers presenting on how water and the river impacts their lifeways. Participants will be involved in water and community conversation and activities throughout. Tour distance will be approximately 1 mile with stops along the way: Confluence Project at Ronan Park Global Garden Refugee Training Farm River Lab River Rewilding project The tour will be facilitated by neighborhood leaders along with the North River Commission’s Confluence, a planning project to improve and activate a series of sites at Lawrence Avenue and the Chicago River, to establish a stronger neighborhood gateway for Albany Park. Speakers include: Carson Poole, North River Commission Confluence Project; Linda Seyler + Farmers, Global Garden Refugee Training Farm; Joanne So Young Dill, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District; Devika Ranjan + Youth Ensemble, Albany Park Theater Project; Matt Renfree, Chicago Park District’s River Lab; along with others Who: All area neighbors, all ages, all languages are welcome! Translators made available on request. This program is a part of 2021 Chicago Architectural Biennial, The Available City and produced by Wayfinding in partnership with North River Commission. Wayfinding, a creative collective which cultivates and produces interdisciplinary, cross-sector projects and programs, building connections between people and the natural and built environment. This walking tour of Albany Park and creative studio features local speakers presenting on how water and the river impacts their lifeways. Intergenerational attendees will be involved in conversation during the walk and participate in activities articulating their own water story and curiosity. Tour distance will be approximately 1 mile with stops along the way: Confluence Project at Ronan Park Global Garden Refugee Training Farm River Lab River Rewilding project The tour will be facilitated by neighborhood leaders along with the North River Commission’s Confluence, a planning project to improve and activate a series of sites at Lawrence Avenue and the Chicago River, to establish a stronger neighborhood gateway for Albany Park. The project will create a platform for lively economic activity, a space for authentic cultural expression, and a catalyst that spurs investment on Lawrence Avenue, a vital neighborhood commercial corridor.
