A 5K Run/Walk to honor our Veterans and those Marathon Maniacs, Cathie and Troy Johnson and support the Red Boiling Springs Heritage Museum. Running for Our Hometown and its Heroes: Cathie & Troy Johnson Veterans 5K Run/Walk On June 4, 1926, Congress passed a resolution that the “recurring anniversary of November 11 should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations” Veterans Day is a day to honor the men and women who have served our nation in the Armed Services during peace and time and war. Each November, Vision 2020 honors our veterans and two special citizens of our community with the Cathie and Troy Johnson 5K Run/Walk in historic downtown Red Boiling Springs. Troy Johnson served during the Viet Nam era between 1965 and 1987. He went on to work for the Veterans Administration in Nashville for 19 years after he left active duty. Troy and his wife, Cathie are avid runners. They hold the records for the “Fastest Time for a Married Couple” and the “Oldest Married Couple” (aggregate age of 129 years, 109 days) to complete marathons on all seven continents. They completed this achievement in just twelve days – between February 8 and February 19, 2015. They completed marathons in Australia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Tunisia, the United States, Chile and Antarctica during this 12-day period. 37150 Community Center, another community non-profit, is planning, a flag raising, pledge of allegiance, the national anthem and breakfast for our Veterans that morning, that will be held in conjunction with the 5K race. You are invited to honor our military veterans, first-responders and the Johnsons by participating in Vision 2020’s annual Cathie and Troy Johnson 5K Walk/Run to benefit the Red Boiling Springs Heritage Museum restoration fund. If you have driven by recently, you will notice that the repair of the windows in the building is nearly complete. The work is progressing slowly but is progressing. TWO NEW THINGS This year we will be awarding a plaque for the team (4) with the best overall time and you can participate virtually. Financial sponsorships for the 5k Walk/Run are available for businesses or individuals, at the following levels: $200 Platinum, $150 Gold, $100 Silver, $50 Bronze. Sponsors names will be included in advertising and will be printed on the back of the runners’ t-shirts. Come run for our hometown as we honor our veterans and raise funds for the restoration of the old bank building in town to house the RBS Heritage Museum. Run as an individual or team. Businesses, families, cities, and friends are encouraged to get a team together and join us on Saturday, November 13th.
