Description

Come on a legendary "Hike with Malcolm" with a few fun Halloween Surprises! This is a beautiful hike next to a restored cranberry bogs and through woods to the headwaters of Eel River. We will start the hike at the parking lot on Long Pond Rd. and follow the stream, passing cranberry bogs that are returning to nature and a large copse of fairly recently planted white cedar trees at the bogs. This portion ends at a small pond the last above ground water source of Eel River. Leaving the bogs we proceed inland to Hoyts Pond, the headwater for the river. We will then back track a bit and take a woodland path to another cranberry bog system. Following the bog trail we will proceed through a woodland to an old but interesting cemetery. After the cemetery, we hike along to a beautiful old church on Long Pond Rd. Then back to the parking lot to complete our journey, a distance of about 4 miles.
