Description

Luna Culture Lab and in-house Mexican expert Dayel Guzman present a two-day Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Community Experience! Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead has become a symbolic ritual of Mexican culture. For two days (Nov. 1 -2) families and friends unite in these festivities honoring the life of loved ones who have passed. The most iconic tradition is the building of the altar, or ofrenda. This colorful centerpiece is a demonstration of respect and love for the deceased. Tradition decorates these altars with candles, Marigold flowers, photos, and favorite items, these offerings / ofrendas become a place of healing and honor. Luna Culture Lab is welcoming the public to celebrate community and life with us in a series of three free events: 1. Community Altar: Luna Lab is opening her doors to the community to assemble a vibrant community altar. The public is encouraged to add photos, candles, flowers, and favorite items to honor their loved ones. On Nov. 1-2 from 6pm-8pm guests are welcome to return to Luna to view the final altar and celebrate this community masterpiece. 2. Luisa Leon Altar & Exhibit: Local artist and friend Luisa Leon's first mural, Vida, is forever a part of Luna Culture Lab. We are honoring her life Nov. 1-2 with a personal altar. Guests are also welcome to stop by and visit an exhibit featuring Luisa's student artwork from the 100 Consecutive Days of Painting she hosted last year during quarantine. 3. Unveiling of Ray Rivas Mural: Local artist Ray Rivas and Luna Culture Lab are paying tribute to Luisa Leon in a big way, by dedicating and painting Luisa’s portrait adjacent to her mural Vida at Luna Culture Lab. Stop by for the unveiling of Ray’s mural and masterful dedication to Luisa. Luna Culture Lab’s mission is foster cultural diversity. Our events are a tool to continue building cultural bridges in our community. We aim to inspire people of all backgrounds to embrace their own cultural heritage and be excited to learn about the cultures and identities of others. We are passionate about sharing the art and culture of Mexico and encouraging others to share their culture with us in return. For more, visit lunaculturelab.org.
