Description
Create a beautiful charcuterie board and gain confidence on wood shop tools in this two session class. In this two session class, you will make a board suitable for cutting and presenting cold-cuts, cheese, etc. The board will be made from several pieces of wood. You will select your own combination of woods to make an attractive, striped assembly. You will learn to use the table saw, the jointer/planer, the router table, the drum sander and a hand-held sander. First, you will prepare the pieces of wood. At the end of the first meeting, you will glue the prepared pieces into a single board. In the second meeting, you will complete the piece by planing and sanding the surfaces, and routing finger-notches in the ends. When the piece is complete, you will apply a coat of suitable oil, which can be refreshed at home as needed. This class meets on two successive Mondays, November 8 and 15 Cost: $130, materials included. Pay $10 now to reserve your spot. The rest is payable to the the instructor at class (cash, check or card) Age: Adults Instructor: Dave Peterson grew up working in a manufacturing company that made steel components for farm and construction machinery. After college, he wandered off into academics for a few years before returning to the factory as general manager/owner. When he retired, he took up wood turning, the craft of making round things out of wood: bowls, platters, candle-holders, vases, etc. Note: Some of these machines are noisy and produce chips and saw dust. You will need to bring your own safety glasses, dust mask and hearing protection. All of these can be purchased at Menard's. Please note that your regular glasses are do probably not quality as "safety" glasses. You can use goggles or a face shield over your regular glasses. If you only need glasses for close-up work (if you're myopic), you can buy safety classes with built-in lenses for close work. These are available on-line or at Rockler in Burnsville. Check their inventory before you drive up there.
